Why Firefox? To make everyone's life easier, especially yours. Different web browsers look and display things differently. That can make it confusing when you talk to different people using different browsers (also, not everyone uses Windows or Vista, so not everyone has Internet Explorer). Also, different versions of Internet Explorer work differently, which means different versions often display images differently (or not at all!). That also leads to confusion.
Firefox is free, and it works on both Macs and PCs. If everyone is using the same browser, we can avoid all the confusion of different displays. Firefox is also designed to make it easy to write brand new programs like the Data Manager that use cutting edge technology. That lets your professors create new (and hopefully better) ways for them to teach and for you to learn. And that, after all, is what it's all about.
